ADHD assessments aim to identify symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that impact an individual’s functioning across various settings, such as home, school, or work.
Initial Consultation
An in-depth discussion with the individual and/or parents/caregivers to explore the specific concerns and the impact of symptoms on daily life.
Comprehensive History
Collecting detailed information about the individual’s developmental, medical, educational, and family history, as well as previous assessments or interventions.
Standardised Questionnaires
Using rating scales and questionnaires completed by the individual, parents, and teachers to assess the frequency and severity of ADHD symptoms. Common tools include the Conners’ Rating Scales and the ADHD Rating Scale-IV.
Behavioural Observations
Direct observation of the individual’s behaviour in structured and unstructured settings to assess attention, activity levels, and impulse control.
Feedback and Reporting
A feedback session with the individual and/or parents/caregivers to discuss the results and provide recommendations for management strategies, educational accommodations, and resources.
Outcome
The assessment provides a clear diagnosis and understanding of the individual’s ADHD profile, leading to personalized treatment plans that may include behavioural interventions, educational support, and, if appropriate, medication management.
